THE pound has dropped against the euro this morning on reports that Italy could bow to EU pressure by reigning in plans for a huge deficit budget. The Italian government had rattled markets after announcing plans to set out a deficit goal of 2.4 percent of GDP for the next three years, sparking backlash from European Commission officials.
